Vancouver Career College
Vancouver Career College offers students a 52-week Practical Nursing Diploma program, which trains students to work in medical, surgical, and rehabilitation care. Graduates of the Vancouver Career College practical nursing diploma program work in many settings, such as acute care wards, private homes, long-term care facilities, and public schools. Throughout the course of the practical nursing diploma program, students are trained in the fundamental duties and responsibilities of a practical nurse.
The curriculum at Vancouver Career College’s practical nursing diploma program follows standards laid out by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia. Students in this practical nursing program learn the basics of holistic and clinical practices, with a focus on nursing-related skills.
The practical nursing diploma program includes both classroom learning and lab work, in addition to three practica. Students gain the theory and background of a nursing education through the classroom training, and then get the opportunity to apply that background during the supervised practica. During these hands-on learning opportunities, students get experience with acute care, gerontology, and community medical care. At the end of the supervised learning portion of the program, students participate in a preceptorship and job-search training.
The courses in this Vancouver Career College program are designed to provide students with the skills they need to begin their nursing careers, and only those skills; the program does not include a lot of extraneous general education courses. Students complete courses such as health, healing, human relationships, human anatomy and physiology, nursing arts, and various practica.
