University Canada West Academy of Health offers a Practical Nursing program at its Victoria campus in British Columbia. The practical nursing program provides aspiring nurses with the skills that they need to work in settings such as acute care wards, public schools, private homes, and long-term care facilities. Practical nurses work with other health care professionals to administer medical care to patients in stable condition.

The Practical Nursing Diploma program at the University Canada West Academy of Health trains students to work in surgical, medical, and rehabilitation care in a variety of positions. Students can complete the practical nursing program in 51 weeks, and be ready for an entry-level position in the nursing industry. Practical nurses work under the supervision of more experienced health care personnel, such as registered nurses or physicians.

The curriculum at UCW Academy of Health is designed to follow the standards laid out by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia. Students at UCW Academy of Health learn both holistic and clinical practices. Throughout the practical nursing program, students learn in both a classroom and laboratory setting. Students learn how to take basic measurements; perform routine laboratory tests; deal with acute care, long-term care, and day-to-day care; and many other regular nursing responsibilities. Students also undergo three practicum placements to gain real, hands-on industry-professional experience to boost their careers.
