Tri-State Institute
Tri-State Institute offers a practical nursing program for students who are interested in beginning basic, entry-level nursing careers. Practical nurses help physicians and registered nurses care for patients. The Tri-State Institute practical nursing program trains nurses in the basic skills that they need to begin their careers, and prepares them to sit for state licensure examinations to become Licensed Practical Nurses.
The Tri-State Institute practical nursing program prepares nurses to work in many traditional clinical settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care institutions. Practical nurses must perform routine nursing duties, such as monitoring patients, checking vital signs, changing bandages, administering medications, and giving injections.
Practical nurses also have administrative duties, such as patient record-keeping, communicating with patients and their families, making sure patients understand their medical conditions, and communicating with other health care professionals. Practical nurses work under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians.
In addition to basic nursing processes and procedures, practical nurses must understand important regulations and administrative requirements. Practical nurses must meet OSHA regulations, HIPPA requirements, patient confidentiality standards, universal precautions, and the legal aspects of working in the health care environment.
Students who are interested in attending the Tri-State Institute practical nursing program must be high school graduates, or provide proof of equivalency. Interested students should contact Tri-State Institute to schedule an interview with staff, tour the facility, and learn when the next available classes begin. Applicants must undergo personal interviews, and must complete a personal information sheet and a Wonderlic assessment. Admissions professionals will review students’ career goals and determine whether the Tri-State Institute practical nursing program is appropriate for students’ skills, goals, and education.
Qualifying students may be eligible for financial aid. Students should contact the financial aid department for more information.
