Sumner College
Sumner College provides a Licensed Practical Nursing program designed to prepare students for careers in practical nursing. The practical nursing program prepares students to enter one of many health-related careers, including working in a hospital, medical clinic, physician’s office, outpatient care center, home health care, nursing home, or even with federal, state, or local government agencies. Graduates of the Sumner College practical nursing program are prepared to make a smooth transition from student to working health care professional.
The Sumner College practical nursing program provides students with a two-pronged approach to nursing education: classroom learning to impart theory and a basic nursing background to students, and a hands-on learning environment that simulates real clinical nursing. Students who successfully complete the practical nursing program are eligible to apply to the Oregon State Board of Nursing to sit for the NCLEX-PN. Students who pass the NCLEX-PN become Licensed Practical Nurses, and are ready to begin their entry-level positions in practical nursing.
