Prism Career Institute
Prism Career Institute, with locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, offers a 15-month, limited-enrollment practical nursing program. The Prism Career Institute practical nursing program is a full-time day program that provides students with the basic skills and background that they need to become Licensed Practical Nurses. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the licensing examination to obtain their licensing for practical nursing.
The Prism Career Institute practical nursing program curriculum combines classroom learning, hands-on laboratory practices, and supervised clinical experience at health care facilities. Graduates who successfully complete the practical nursing program have the skills and knowledge base to provide patient care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or doctor.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a high demand for Licensed Practical Nurses. LPNs care for people in many circumstances, including illnesses, injuries, convalescence, and even disabled individuals. During a typical day, an LPN may be expected to take vital signs, prepare and administer injections, apply ice and hot water bottles, treat bedsores, apply dressings, and complete other basic nursing tasks. In some settings, LPNs assist patients with everyday tasks. In other settings, LPNs may collect samples for testing, perform basic laboratory tests, record patient data, and communicate with patients and family.
Students who are interested in the Prism Career Institute practical nursing program must provide proof of a high school diploma or equivalency, and students must meet state requirements. Prism Career Institute also administers a basic skills evaluation, which students must pass. Students who are invited to enroll at Prism Career Institute may be eligible for financial aid, and can contact the financial aid office. Successful graduates who earn their practical nurse licensing may utilize the Prism Career Institute Career Services department for employment assistance and job placement help.
