The Pioneer Pacific College practical nursing diploma prepares graduates for entry-level positions in a variety of work settings. The practical nursing program emphasizes the development of clinical skills to enable students to function successfully in a variety of work settings. Students may go on to work in one of many fields as a practical nurse, including long-term care, private home care, hospital care, outpatient care, or even mental health care fields.
Pioneer Pacific College offers students a dual-learning environment. Students learn in the classroom, and they also learn in a laboratory which simulates the facilities, equipment, and records found in clinical and administrative sections of practical nursing careers. Students learn basic nursing skills, such as caring for the sick, disabled, injured, or convalescent under the care of a registered nurse or physician. Practical nursing students also learn how to complete administrative tasks, such as patient record-keeping, communicating with patients and families, taking patient measurements, and other routine tasks.
Graduates of the Pioneer Pacific College practical nursing diploma program are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN state licensing examination. The Pioneer Pacific College curriculum includes prep for this state licensing examination as part of the curriculum. Students who successfully complete the NCLEX-PN may become Licensed Practical Nurses, and are eligible for entry-level employment in the nursing industry. Graduating from the program does not make students LPNs. Only students who successfully complete licensing examinations become Licensed Practical Nurses.
