National Institute of Technology
Everest Institute, formerly National Institute of Technology, provides several nursing programs to students around the country, which vary by campus. These programs include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, an Associate Degree in Nursing, a Vocational Nursing program, and a Practical Nursing program. Vocational Nursing and Practical Nursing are both diploma programs which prepare nurses for entry-level nursing careers.
Because Everest campuses are located around the country, and each state has its own practice rules for nurses, Everest nursing program curriculums vary based on the state. Some states have Vocational Nursing programs, for example, while other states have Practical Nursing programs. Students who are interested in their local nursing programs should contact a local Everest College campus to determine which programs are available, and what the scope of the program includes.
Generally speaking, nursing programs at Everest encompass hands-on training and education in key competencies, including anatomy and physiology, nursing pharmacology, basic nutrition, nursing care, care of adults, maternal child nursing, and nursing fundamentals. Nursing degree programs provide students with a more comprehensive education, including general education classes, while the Practical Nursing and Vocational Nursing programs focus exclusively on nursing-specific subjects.
Students who complete the Everest College associate’s degree in nursing programs can apply their education to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The Associate’s degree in Nursing generally prepares students for careers as Registered Nurses, and the credits from this program can be used toward earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Alternately, students who complete the Practical Nursing or Vocational Nursing programs may become state-licensed to practice nursing, but those programs may not apply toward an ongoing nursing education.
