Kaplan College

Kaplan College offers various nursing training programs for students, depending on location. Kaplan College offers an Associate of Science in Nursing to students at the San Diego, California campus; a Practical Nursing diploma to students at the Northwest Indianapolis, Indiana, campus; or a Vocational Nursing diploma program at several campuses in California and Texas.

The Associate of Science in Nursing program available at Kaplan College in San Diego, California provides students with an extensive nursing education. Students are instructed in detailed coursework relating to the nursing career, including instruction in human behavior, motivation, cognition, personality, and emotions; anatomy and physiology of the human body; pharmacological principals, including drug classifications, nursing assessments, and more; and leadership and management skills.  Nurses who successfully complete the program and pass the NCLEX-RN examination are prepared for entry-level careers in Registered Nursing, in a broad range of potential settings and employment opportunities.

The Practical Nursing diploma offered at the Northwest Indianapolis campus, and the Vocational Nursing diploma offered at several campuses in California and Texas, are very similar programs, altered only to conform with state nursing practice requirements. Each state has its own state nursing certification, and nurses in each state have a different scope of responsibility based on state nursing practices. The Kaplan College nursing programs conform to the state nursing practices, and prepare students to meet the practice requirements laid out by their respective states.

In many cases, these programs prepare students to provide basic bedside care, take vital signs and patient measurements, prepare and administer injections, and perform routine laboratory tests. Practical and Vocational nurses perform these duties on stable patients under the care of Registered Nurses or physicians. Students must complete their local state licensing examinations before they are eligible to begin employment in any nursing setting or profession.
