Concorde

Concorde Career Colleges, Inc. offers a practical nursing program at four of its campuses: Aurora, Colorado; Jacksonville, Florida; Kansas City, Missouri; and Portland, Oregon. Students who complete the practical nursing program are eligible to sit the state licensing examination, but specifics may vary from state to state. Upon completing the practical nursing training program and successfully passing the state licensing examination, graduates are ready for entry-level careers in practical nursing.

Practical nurses provide patient care to a variety of individuals, either under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or a physician. Concorde views practical nursing as a comprehensive study, based on concepts from biological, physical, and behavioral sciences. Nurse practice acts vary from state to state, so the exact scope of practice of a practical nurse depends on the state’s practice acts.

Generally speaking, upon becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, graduates utilize the nursing process for many responsibilities. A typical day in the life of an LPN may include patient assessment, contributing to the nursing diagnosis made by the RN, and assisting in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.

The practical nursing program at Concorde is a one-year program that includes extensive classroom instruction, as well as hands-on learning. Concorde provides supervised clinical experiences so that students are able to apply the theory they learn in the classroom, and provide patient care in health care facilities. This real hands-on learning is a major asset of a Concorde practical nursing program, and an area where the program diverges from many other schools, which provide only theoretical training in a classroom setting.

Students at Concorde learn a variety of skills, including pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, common diseases processes, and various types of nursing care. Students also learn about legal and ethical responsibilities in the nursing profession.
