CDI College
CDI College, with locations in Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec, and British Columbia, offers a practical nursing program for aspiring practical nurses. The practical nursing program is laid out based on curriculum established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia. Students who undergo the practical nursing program at CDI College receive hands-on training, classroom training, simulated laboratory training, and a series of practicums to prepare them for their new careers in practical nursing.
The practical nursing program at CDI College is a 51-week program. Students complete a series of Nursing Arts courses to learn both clinical and holistic practices, not just traditional clinical practices. Students who successfully complete the practical nursing program are eligible to go on to many potential careers in practical nursing, including working in a medical, surgical, or rehabilitative setting. At the end of the year-long course, students participate in a preceptorship and job-search training, which helps them transition from students to working professionals.
One of the unique factors of the CDI College practical nursing program is the series of three practicums that students undergo during their education. These practicums enable students to gain hands-on experience under the supervision of experienced registered nurses or physicians. Each of these practicums takes place in a different setting, giving students experience with acute care facilities, gerontology wards, and community medical care centers. Students can use this first-hand experience to determine the basis under which they’d like to be employed, and appropriately direct their job-search energy toward the setting that suits them best.
CDI College applicants must meet with an admissions representative to discuss admissions requirements for the practical nursing program. Students complete a personal interview, and discuss the specific requirements for the program. At a minimum, applicants must possess a high school diploma.
