American Career College
American Career College provides vocational nursing training for students who are interested in becoming Licensed Practical Nurses. Vocational nurses work under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians to administer patient care. LPNs complete many of the day-to-day tasks of a physician’s office, health clinic, long-term care facility, rehabilitation center, or other medical setting.
The American Career College vocational nursing training program provides students with a combined approach to nursing training, which includes both academic training and clinical training. This combined approach gives students the classroom experience to form a good foundation for the theory of nursing, and the clinical experience to apply that theory and learn the actual skills they’ll need in their nursing careers.
Graduates of the American Career College vocational nursing program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX-PN. Upon successfully completing this examination, students may become licensed practical nurses and may seek employment as a practical or vocational nurse. Passing this examination qualifies students for entry-level positions as LPNs or LVNs; the exact title depends on the region.
Students in the vocational nursing program get a good foundation in classroom education before learning how to practice nursing skills in a live clinical setting. Program courses include the endocrine system, the cardiovascular system, the musculoskeletal system, the respiratory system, and introduction to Client Centered Care IA/IB. Upon completing the classroom training, and sometimes in conjunction with the classroom training, students have opportunities to apply their skills hands-on in clinical settings.
The vocational nursing program requires just over a year to complete. Students must meet minimum entrance requirements to qualify for admission, including having a high school diploma or equivalency, scoring over 70% on the HESI exam, and scoring 160 or higher on the entrance exam.
