How to Become an LPN in Montana

To become an LPN in Montana you will need to:

  1. Attend a practical nursing program in the United States.
  2. Complete an application form for licensure and send it to the Montana State Board of Nursing. You can get one at http://mt.gov/dli/nur/licenses/nur/pdf/nur_exam_app.pdf. The application must include a passport-size photograph and an application fee of $100. There are several payment methods available.  
  3. Request that your nursing school send a set of official transcripts to the Montana State Board of Nursing.
  4. Register for the NCLEX exam at http://www.pearsonvue.com/nclex/. The exam fee is $200.
  5. Once approved to test, take and pass the exam.  
  6. Receive your license from the Montana State Board of Nursing.
PN licenses in Montana are valid for two years and expire in even-numbered years on December 31. PNs will receive renewal notices by mail.
